My Roots
Dutch Shepherd
Dutch Shepherds have a long and interesting history that dates back to the early 19th century. Originally bred as farm dogs in the Netherlands, they were used to herd sheep and cattle. At that time, the breed was a mix of various herding dogs, and there was no official standard for Dutch Shepherds.
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Dutch breeders began to develop a more standardized breed. They selected dogs with desirable traits, such as intelligence, loyalty, and a strong work ethic. By the mid-20th century, the Dutch Shepherd had become a recognized breed in the Netherlands.
Over the years, Dutch Shepherds have played a crucial role in various working roles. They have been used as police dogs, search and rescue dogs, herding dogs, and even as guide dogs for the blind. Their intelligence, trainability, and protective instincts make them ideal for these demanding tasks.
Today, Dutch Shepherds remain a popular breed both in the Netherlands and around the world. They are known for their loyalty, energy, and intelligence. While they can be challenging to train due to their strong-willed nature, they make excellent family pets for active individuals who can provide them with plenty of exercise and mental stimulation.

Labrador Retriever
The Labrador Retriever, often simply referred to as the Labrador, is a popular dog breed known for its friendly and outgoing personality. Their history can be traced back to Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, where they were originally used as working dogs to assist fishermen.
Labradors were prized for their ability to retrieve fish that escaped from nets and to haul in lines. Their thick, waterproof coats and strong swimming abilities made them well-suited for this demanding task. In addition to their fishing duties, Labradors were also used to pull carts and sleds, and to guard homes and property.
In the 19th century, Labradors began to gain popularity as companion dogs. Their friendly and gentle nature, combined with their intelligence and trainability, made them ideal family pets. By the mid-20th century, Labradors had become one of the most popular dog breeds in the United States and the United Kingdom.
Today, Labradors continue to be a beloved breed, known for their loyalty, affection, and playful spirit. They are often used as service dogs, guide dogs, and hunting dogs. Their versatility and adaptability make them suitable for a wide range of lifestyles.
